Discussions Held on Banning Alcohol Sales 7 Days Before House of Representatives Election

Kathmandu. Discussions have been held regarding imposing a ban on alcohol sales 7 days prior to the House of Representatives election. One high-ranking official who participated in the meeting of the High-Level Election Security Committee told Ratopati about the discussion.

According to Tuesday's discussion, the Election Commission will recommend to the government about stopping the sale and distribution of alcohol. The House of Representatives election is scheduled for Falgun 21. The official participating in the meeting stated that after the Commission's recommendation, a decision regarding alcohol will be made by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He said, “There was a discussion that alcohol sales and distribution should be completely banned for at least 7 days.”

It has been analyzed that if alcohol sales are not controlled, it will add challenges to election security. The government is also preparing to control alcohol to manage the Terai Holi celebrations scheduled for Falgun 19.

The High-Level Security Committee has decided to close border movement 72 hours in advance.
