India-Bordered Baitadi Checkpoint to Close for Three Days Ahead of Elections

Baitadi. In view of the upcoming elections, the Jhulaghat border crossing in Baitadi, which connects to India, will be closed for three days.

Chief District Officer Krishna Thapa informed that the border will be closed 72 hours before the voting day. According to him, to ensure the election is conducted in a free, fair, and fearless environment, the Jhulaghat border point connected to India will be closed from 12:00 AM on Falgun 18 until 12:00 AM on Falgun 21.

The District Security Committee stated that since the district has a 31-kilometer border area connected to India, high security alert has been maintained in the border area, and security surveillance has been increased through the Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the Armed Police Force stationed there.

Chief District Officer Thapa mentioned that since crossing between the two sides is done via boats at various ghats (river crossings) of the Mahakali River in the Tallosorad area of the district, movement through all these ghats will be stopped during the election period.

During the last election, the border was closed for 72 hours. It has been stated that if the border needs to be opened during this period for essential work, it can be done through mutual coordination between the two countries.
