Orientation Held for Officials Assigned to Welcome Foreign Observers for Upcoming By-elections

An orientation was held for the liaison officers assigned the responsibility of welcoming officials from diplomatic missions and foreign guests for observing the House of Representatives by-elections scheduled for Falgun 21.

Sixty-seven individuals, including Deputy Secretaries, Section Officers, and Nayab Subbas from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the program organized by the Election Commission on Tuesday. Election Commissioner Sagun Shamsher JB Rana stated that since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has deployed them to welcome and facilitate foreign guests, they must present themselves in a manner that creates a positive impression for Nepal right from the welcome at Tribhuvan International Airport. He informed that the liaison officers must behave with foreign guests while developing quality, including noting the names of their countries.

Election Commissioner Rana also mentioned that the liaison officers must be well-informed about the extent to which diplomatic mission staff and foreign guests are permitted to go during the voting process. He directed them to work together as this is a collective task to uphold the nation's prestige. He advised the liaison officers to prepare to work in a way that enhances Nepal's image.

During the program, experienced individuals who had previously served as liaison officers requested that programs be arranged accordingly, as foreign guests also wish to visit heritage sites.  

On the occasion, the Commission's Joint Secretary and Spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, gave a presentation regarding the information to be provided to foreign guests and officials from diplomatic missions about the elections. Similarly, Deepak Bik, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented on the 'Role and Responsibilities of Liaison Officers'.
