Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal Arrives in New Delhi for Official Visit

Kathmandu. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has arrived in New Delhi, India for an official visit. 

He departed for India today at the invitation of Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. 

Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, he was welcomed by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Munu Mahawar. Additional Secretary Mahawar looks after the Nepal and Bhutan desk at India's Ministry of External Affairs.

This is the first high-level foreign visit since the formation of the government by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Speaking to journalists in Kathmandu before departing for New Delhi, Foreign Minister Khanal stated that this was the first high-level visit since the formation of the RSP government and that discussions would focus on the country's priority issues during this trip.

Meanwhile, welcoming Minister Khanal, India's Ministry of External Affairs wrote, 'A warm welcome to Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal for his first official visit to India. Continuing the tradition of regular high-level visits, this visit will help further strengthen the special partnership between India and Nepal.'

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, during the visit, Foreign Minister Khanal will hold formal bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart Dr. Jaishankar. On that occasion, the foreign ministers of the two countries will hold in-depth discussions on various issues of mutual interest between Nepal and India.

It has been informed that the two sides will hold talks focusing particularly on cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, energy sectors, and further strengthening and expanding the mutual relations between the peoples of the two countries. Foreign Minister Khanal is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Jestha 24th after completing all his official programs.
