Supreme Court Schedules Hearing on Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai's Habeas Corpus Petition

The hearing for medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai's habeas corpus writ petition has been scheduled. The writ will be heard on Tuesday by a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Meghraj Pokharel.

Previously, on Monday, the Supreme Court had ordered the summoning of the relevant file from the Office of the Attorney General. The court issued the order to summon the file based on the written response sent by the District Police Range during the preliminary hearing of the habeas corpus writ filed by Prasai.

Uma Prasai filed the habeas corpus writ on behalf of Prasai, naming the District Police Range, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, as the respondent. Before his arrest, Prasai had filed a writ on Falgun 1, demanding a halt to the crackdown against him. In that writ, the Supreme Court had sought a written response from the Election Commission and the District Police Range, among others. The two writs filed by Prasai are being heard together.

Prasai, who was arrested earlier on Magh 23, was released on personal bail. At that time, the police Cyber Bureau had taken his statement based on his remarks regarding the election.

Police have repeatedly arrested Prasai on suspicion that he was about to start a campaign to disrupt the election scheduled for Falgun 21. Prasai, who was previously arrested in Pokhara on Magh 5, was released after giving a statement.
