State Prosecutor Drops Case Against Man Accused in Singh Durbar Arson Case

Kathmandu. The government lawyer has dropped the case against an accused arrested for allegedly setting fire to Singh Durbar. Ramhari Kafle, the chief of the District Government Attorney's Office Kathmandu, decided not to proceed with the case against Mahendra Gautam, who resides in Anam Nagar and is originally from Khairahani Municipality-9, Chitwan.

The government lawyer decided not to take his case to court on Falgun 8, after the police submitted the investigation report. An official from the District Government Attorney's Office told Ratopati that the decision not to proceed with the case against him was made under the direction of Attorney General Sabita Bhandari. The police had arrested him on Magh 22 and investigated him under the charge of criminal nuisance.

Attorney General Bhandari had previously granted immunity in an egg trafficking case to 'Hope Fertility Center,' where her interests were conflicted.

A few months ago, Bhandari also decided to withdraw the charge sheets related to money laundering and organized crime against more than 50 accused, including Ravi Lamichhane, Chhabilal Joshi, and GB Rai, who were involved in cooperative fraud. Singh Durbar, the country's main administrative center, was set on fire during the Genji movement that took place last Bhadau.
