India Advises Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Fears of Potential US Military Action

Kathmandu. Amid fears of potential US military action in Tehran, the Indian government has formally advised its citizens to leave Iran. Assessing the escalating regional tensions, the Ministry of External Affairs urged caution and requested return via available flights.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran stated in a notice issued via social media, "In view of the developing situation in Iran, Indian nationals currently there are advised to leave Iran using available means of transport, including commercial flights."

The embassy also urged all Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin to exercise special caution, stay away from areas of protests, remain in contact with the embassy, and keep updated through local media.

According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 10,000 Indian citizens generally reside in Iran. The government's view is that the current unstable situation necessitates prioritizing their safety.

This warning was issued ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Israel on Wednesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday expressed hope that the visit would strengthen new cooperation to confront 'extremist' challenges. Modi also mentioned on social media that he was 'looking forward' to the discussions during his Israel visit. "India deeply values its enduring friendship with Israel, based on a shared commitment to trust, innovation, and peace and progress," he said.

New Delhi has been expanding cooperation with Israel in sectors such as defense, agriculture, technology, and security. Simultaneously, India maintains long-term strategic relations with Gulf nations and Iran. India's involvement in the development of Iran's Chabahar port is linked to plans to expand trade access to Afghanistan, where India has also been increasing contact with the Taliban administration.
