Family of Election Commissioner Saugat Shamsher JB Falls Victim to Fraud; Case Filed Against Accused

Kathmandu. The family of Election Commission Commissioner Saugat Shamsher JB has been defrauded. Commissioner JB's wife, Seema Rana, was duped by the lure of acquiring prime land at a cheap price.

A case has been filed in the Kathmandu District Court against 40-year-old Madhu Karki, a resident of Sindhuli, on charges of defrauding Seema Rana, Commissioner JB's wife, of 1.85 million rupees by luring her with the promise of securing cheap land.

According to the indictment, the defendant Madhu Karki gained the trust of Seema Rana by claiming to be her 'elder sister' while her husband (the Election Commissioner) was abroad. Karki lured her by saying, 'There is very good and cheap land in one place; if you don't pay the deposit immediately, others will take it.' Believing Karki, Seema Rana handed over a total of 2.5 million rupees in installments as a deposit for the land, along with a copy of her citizenship certificate. However, after receiving the money, Karki neither transferred the land nor provided the deposit agreement.

When Rana suspected fraud and demanded her money back, Karki returned only 650,000 rupees. She has been out of contact for a long time without returning the remaining 1.85 million rupees. In this case, Election Commissioner's driver Balram Bhujel and personal secretary Samir Bhattarai have also given statements as witnesses. According to them, the defendant Karki betrayed trust by building intimacy by claiming to be an 'elder sister'.
