Former President Bhandari Extends Wishes on National Democracy Day, Calls for Upholding Democratic Values

Kathmandu. Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed hope that National Democracy Day will provide new enthusiasm and inspiration to move forward towards sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity for all.

While extending her best wishes through social media on the occasion of National Democracy Day, she stated that today marks the historic day when the struggle against autocratic rule achieved victory. In her message, former President Bhandari mentioned that Democracy Day reminds us of the long struggle, sacrifice, and martyrdom made by the Nepali people to attain democracy.

“This day gives an inspiring message that the united power of the people can establish democracy, human rights, and political freedom,” she said, “It is necessary to continuously strive for the protection and strengthening of democracy by embracing it not just as a political system but as a practice and culture.”

In her message, former President Bhandari mentioned that it is imperative to further strengthen democratic practice through the balanced use of rights and responsibilities guaranteed by the constitution. She stated that it is the shared responsibility of all to make the general election, scheduled for this Falgun 21 under special political circumstances, impartial, peaceful, and reliable.
