Nepal Electricity Authority Launches Crucial Tansen-Burtiwang 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line

Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has formally brought the Tansen-Burtiwang 132kV double circuit transmission line into operation. This transmission line is a vital infrastructure project connecting Gulmi and Baglung districts to the national power grid.

The NEA stated that regular electricity flow through the line commenced on Tuesday after successfully completing a two-day technical testing period. This project is a segment of the NEA-constructed 'Burtiwang-Paundi Amrai-Tansen-Sandhikharka-Gorusinge 132kV Transmission Line Project.'

Following the operation of the Tansen-Burtiwang 132kV double circuit transmission line, NEA Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya conducted an on-site inspection of the project on Tuesday.

Shakya inspected the Tansen Substation located at Unachaur, Resunga Municipality-7, Gulmi; the Paundi Amrai Substation under Musikot Municipality; and the Burtiwang Substation at Khaltubot, Dhorpatan Municipality-2, Baglung.

During the inspection, he mentioned that this transmission line would significantly benefit not only domestic consumers but also small and large industrial businesses. 

He expressed confidence that reliable electricity supply would support industrial expansion, create employment opportunities, and help reduce youth migration. Shakya added that it is expected to play a crucial role in future industrial development, agricultural modernization, and service sector expansion.

Shakya stated that the NEA considers this project important with the objective of making the electricity supply system robust, reliable, high-quality, and dependable. He said, 'Transmission has started from the Paundi Amrai Substation and Burtiwang Substation from here. Previously, when the line was at 33kV, there were issues with electricity supply 10-15 times daily. I have received information that after charging the 132kV transmission line, the electricity supply has become regular and the voltage is also good. This is a positive development for reliable electricity supply.'

Electricity flow with a capacity of 132 thousand volts was tested from the Tansen Substation at Unachaur, Resunga Municipality-7, to the Burtiwang Substation at Khaltubot, Dhorpatan Municipality-2. With the successful test, regular electricity service transmission has now begun.

Under this project, five substations have been constructed from the Motipur Substation in Kapilvastu, passing through Arghakhanchi, to Unachaur in Gulmi and Paundi Amrai, reaching Burtiwang in Baglung.

Although electricity has been distributed via the 132kV line from the Arghakhanchi and Unachaur substations in Gulmi for about two years, the entire structure has come into full operation only after the Burtiwang section was commissioned.

Project Chief Manoj Prasad Chaudhary stated that this project includes five substations from the Motipur Substation in Kapilvastu to Burtiwang in Baglung district, expressing optimism that once this project operates at full capacity, electricity supply in Gulmi and Baglung districts will become more reliable, regular, and high-quality.

'Under this project, five substations have been constructed from the Motipur Substation in Kapilvastu via Sandhikharka in Arghakhanchi to Unachaur in Gulmi and Paundi Amrai, reaching Burtiwang in Baglung,' he said, 'Electricity distribution has been ongoing via the 132kV line from the Arghakhanchi and Unachaur substations in Gulmi for about two years. Now that the Burtiwang section is operational, all structures are fully implemented.'

The NEA expects that the construction of this substation and transmission line, involving an investment of approximately four billion seventy-six crore rupees, will help facilitate easier electricity service availability for residents in districts including Kapilvastu, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, and Baglung.
