Nepali Army Deploys to Secure Prisons Across Sudurpashchim Province Ahead of Elections

Kanchanpur. In view of the security sensitivity of the upcoming elections, the Nepali Army has taken charge of prison security in seven districts of the Sudurpashchim Province.

The Nepali Army stated that it has taken responsibility for the security of prisons in seven districts, excluding the district prisons in Kailali and Kanchanpur headquarters in the Terai region, and those in the hill districts of Baitadi and Bajura. According to the Army's Shree No. 25 Battalion Headquarters, Bhagatpur Barracks, the army has been deployed to secure the prisons located in Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Darchula, and Bajhang under the battalion's jurisdiction.

District Police Office Baitadi Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Rai informed that the army was not deployed in Baitadi as the prison there is under construction. Similarly, the army has also been deployed for prison security in Doti, Kailali, and Achham under the jurisdiction of the Nepali Army's Shree No. 5 Battalion Headquarters. The deployment of the army is in accordance with the cabinet decision to mobilize the army for prisons and important projects deemed highly sensitive from a security perspective.

Police Superintendent Sagar Bohara of the Sudurpashchim Province Police Office informed that the army is providing security to prisons in seven districts, airfields, and the Oil Corporation depot in Dhangadhi.

"The prison buildings in Baitadi and Bajura are under construction," Police Superintendent Bohara said, "The army has been deployed for security at Geta Airport, Kolti Airport in Bajura, and the airports in Doti and Bajhang."

Likewise, the Nepali Army has been deployed across Sudurpashchim for the past few weeks targeting election security. The army stated that its teams are conducting patrols and making security arrangements in various constituencies.
