Madhesh Province Government Has Enacted 67 Laws, Chief Attorney's Office Reports

Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), January 29: The Madhesh Province Chief Attorney's Office has stated that the Madhesh Province Government has enacted 67 laws to date.

According to Dr. Sunilranjan Singh, Chief Attorney of Madhesh Province, the process for enacting other laws is ongoing. He mentioned that frequent changes in government have created difficulties in enacting further legislation. He further stated that the free legal aid program, operated by the Chief Attorney's Office under the Madhesh Province Government, is becoming effective.

He asserted that the legal structure will further strengthen good governance and the judicial system in the province. He noted that access to justice has become easier for poor and marginalized citizens due to the free legal aid provided in the province.

He informed that the number of beneficiaries from this program, targeted at citizens from economically disadvantaged Dalit, impoverished, disabled, and backward classes who might otherwise be deprived of justice due to financial constraints, is increasing annually.

The Chief Attorney's Office has stated that legal aid is being provided by deploying lawyers with salaries and allowances in all eight districts of Madhesh. Attorney Singh informed that this has helped targeted citizens gain easier access to the courts.

He stated that the number of people utilizing services through the program, which began in the fiscal year 2075/76, is increasing every year. According to the office, 108 people received services in the initial year, followed by 110 in 2076/77, 144 in 2077/78, 238 in 2078/79, and 368 people received free legal aid in 2081/82. Beneficiaries from the target group are receiving legal assistance in District, High, Supreme, and Administrative Courts.
