Local Farm's Cow Crowned Champion at First-Ever National Cattle Exhibition in Chitwan

Chitwan. A cow owned by Kamana Agriculture and Livestock Farm of Ratnanagar was declared the best at the National Cattle Exhibition competition held in Chitwan. The cow secured first place by obtaining 362.5 points out of a total of 400. This type of competitive evaluation-based cattle exhibition was organized for the first time in Chitwan, which is known as a leader in milk production.

During the competition held on Wednesday under the International Dairy Exhibition-2082 currently underway at the Chitwan Exhibition Center in Bharatpur, cows of various breeds were gathered in one place and evaluated by animal experts based on criteria such as health condition, milk yield, physical structure, gait, and reproductive fitness. A four-member judging panel awarded the points.

In the competition, the cow owned by Shiva Prasad Paudel, operator of Shivani Agriculture and Livestock Farm, secured the second position with 353.5 points, while the cow belonging to Chet Prasad Dhakal, operator of Kalika Animal Development Center, came in third with 352.5 points. The cow owned by Padam Tiwari, operator of Nova Agriculture Farm, received the consolation prize.

The chief judge of the cattle competition was Associate Professor Dr. Gokarna Gautam from the Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur. Other members of the judging panel included Dr. Uddhav Paneru, an expert from the Cattle Research Program, Rampur, Dr. Khagendra Sapkota, Senior Livestock Development Officer from the Farmers Commission, and American animal expert Daniel Lee Lenny.

The judges evaluated the cows from 17 different participating farms based on factors including health condition, breed-specific physical structure, gait, milk yield, and reproductive fitness. The judging panel coordinator, Dr. Gautam, stated that the scores of other cows were also very close.

Dr. Gautam informed that the evaluation was based on characteristics such as the cow's physical structure, the possibility of mastitis, and the structure that determines ease or difficulty of calving. He added that all the cows brought to the exhibition were excellent.

On the occasion, Kishor Bagale, Chairman of the organizing body, Chitwan District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited, stated that the cattle competition is a new practice in Nepal. He informed that this practice will be continued in the coming days. He mentioned that while such competitions are broadcast live on television and mobile abroad, this practice is minimal in Nepal.

The International Dairy Expo-2082, jointly organized by the Chitwan Industry Association and the Chitwan District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited under the theme 'Technology in the Dairy Industry, Prosperity in the Economy,' is concluding today.
