Prime Minister Karki Stresses Anti-Corruption as Prerequisite for Good Governance and Prosperity

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sushila Karki stated that controlling corruption is the first condition for good governance and prosperity in the country. Addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday, Prime Minister Karki clarified that the primary responsibility for controlling corruption lies with the government and the executive body.

She stated that the head of any office should be held responsible for irregularities occurring in that office. She claimed that the current government, formed on the foundation of the youth movement, has simplified services such as passports and citizenship to make public services citizen-friendly. Furthermore, she urged everyone to select representatives with clean images in the upcoming election on Falgun 21 to make the great campaign of integrity successful. She stated that the election on Falgun 21 should be viewed as a historic great campaign for establishing integrity and good governance in the country.

She emphasized the need to make the House of Representatives, the country's supreme body for policy formulation, a place for representatives who are capable, ethical, and have a clear stance against corruption. She expressed hope that the election would give a new direction and future to the country's politics. Although political instability and various corruption cases seen in past years have created some disappointment among the general public, she said that the upcoming election has brought a new sense of hope.
