Election Commission to Launch Voter Education Program Ahead of By-elections

Kathmandu. With the objective of making the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Falgun 21 more grand and organized, a special voter education program is set to be launched.

To make the voting process easy and simple, and to reduce the rate of invalid votes, the Commission is launching this nationwide program from Falgun 3 to Falgun 17.

The voter education program will be conducted by mobilizing one voter education volunteer in each of the 6,743 wards across all 753 local levels throughout the country.

Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that the volunteers will visit voters' homes and communities to educate them about the importance of the election and the voting process using a sample ballot paper. The Commission has historically appointed one contact person in every local level.

That same contact person has been designated as the monitor for the voter education program. The Commission believes that voter education plays a significant role in increasing voter participation in the election and reducing the proportion of invalid votes.

The Commission has requested all stakeholders, including the provincial governments of all seven provinces, all 753 local levels, political parties contesting the election, candidates, and the media, to support the voter education program.

The voter education program is being advanced with the goal of informing the general public about the importance of the right to vote and the voting process.
