Preparations Underway at Pashupatinath Temple for Mahashivaratri Festival

In preparation for this year's Mahashivaratri festival, renovation, cleaning, and infrastructure improvement works have commenced in and around the premises of the revered Pashupatinath Temple.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) stated that special cleaning and other preparations are being carried out in the temple area and its surroundings with the objective of facilitating smooth and safe darshan for devotees.

Subhash Chandra Joshi, Executive Director and Spokesperson for the PADT, informed that nine thematic subcommittees have been formed under the main organizing committee to advance the preparations for Mahashivaratri. He stated, "The committee is fully active for the Mahashivaratri preparations. Work is ongoing in areas such as management, security, health, sanitation, transportation, and publicity with the goal of providing convenience to sadhus-saints, devotees, and visitors."

Spokesperson Joshi further mentioned that special attention is being given to crowd management, security arrangements, and emergency services, as a large number of devotees are expected to visit Pashupatinath for darshan on Mahashivaratri. Preparations are being intensified in coordination with security personnel, volunteers, and various organizations.

Furthermore, a 171-member main organizing committee for the Mahashivaratri 2082 preparations has been formed under the chairmanship of Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of the PADT Governing Council. The committee aims to successfully conclude the Mahashivaratri festival in an organized and dignified manner.

In anticipation of the Mahashivaratri festival, the arrival of sadhus-saints at Pashupatinath has rapidly increased. Sadhus-saints from various parts of the country as well as from neighboring India have started arriving at the Pashupatinath area. The PADT has reported that the hustle and bustle of sadhus-saints in the area is significantly increasing as the Mahashivaratri festival approaches.

Sadhus-saints from various akhadas and sects have arrived in the Pashupati area and have begun establishing their dhunis (sacred fires). Sadhus-saints are preparing dhunis in various locations within the Pashupati area for meditation, penance, and spiritual practice. This year, Mahashivaratri falls on Fagun 3. As Mahashivaratri draws nearer, religious activities in the Pashupati area are escalating. The Trust has also noted an increase in the movement of devotees alongside the arrival of sadhus-saints.

As Mahashivaratri is a significant festival for Hindus, a substantial presence of domestic and foreign pilgrims is anticipated. The PADT, the Government of Nepal, and relevant bodies are actively engaged in ensuring the festival is conducted in an organized and successful manner.
