Fatal Road Accidents Surge in Jhapa, Claiming 18 Lives in 25 Days

Jhapa. Road accidents are on the rise in Jhapa. According to data from the District Traffic Police Office, 18 people have lost their lives in road accidents across various locations in the district over the last 25 days. These fatalities occurred between Magh 1 and Magh 25.

A tractor co-driver died in a tractor accident on Sunday in the Biring River area of Arjunadhara Municipality-7. While carrying sand from the Biring River, Saroj Shrestha, the 16-year-old son of co-driver Hark Shrestha, a resident of Arjunadhara-3, fell from the trailer of the tractor (Plate No. Pra 1-01-001Ta 9010) and was run over by the rear wheel.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old Rajan Baskota, a resident of Arjunadhara-3, who was injured in a scooter collision three days prior, also died during treatment on Sunday. Police Inspector Santosh Rai of the Jhapa District Traffic Police Office confirmed that Baskota passed away while undergoing treatment at B&C Hospital in Birtamod on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the morning of Magh 21 on the Birtamod-Khudunabari road section at Garuwa Chowk in Arjunadhara-3, when a scooter (Plate No. Pra 1-01-018Pa 167) traveling from Birtamod towards Khudunabari hit Baskota, who was crossing the road. The scooter driver, 35-year-old Amrita Rai from Ilam Mai Municipality-3, and the scooter are currently in police custody.

Previously, two people died in a collision with a tipper in Damak on Magh 21. Three lives were lost in a single day on Magh 1, and since then, human casualties due to road accidents have been occurring almost daily in the district.
