Irrigation Minister inspects Sikta Project

Kohalpur ( Banke) - Irrigation Minister Sanjay Gupta made a field inspection of the Sikta Irrigation Project, the project of national pride based in Banke district, on Sunday.
The Irrigation Minister who arrived at his home district for the first time since his appointment to the post of minister visited the project's primary canal which crumbled during the trial phase at Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality.
On the occasion, the locals urged the Minister to expedite the project construction so that they could be free from the practice of rain-fed agriculture.
Locals reported the Minister that the canal crumbled because of the use of substandard materials in its construction.
The project that had started in 2063 BS is expected to be complete by the fiscal year 2076-77 BS and the estimated cost is Rs 25 billion. So far 55 percent works have been over.
