CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet Accuses Government of Planning Election Fraud

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary and candidate for Bhaktapur Constituency No. 2, Mahesh Basnet, has accused the government itself of planning to rig the upcoming elections.

Leader Basnet claimed that the Prime Minister's address confirmed the government's involvement in a conspiracy to postpone elections in the Himalayan districts due to weather, and subsequently store ballot boxes in police and army barracks to decide who wins and who loses.

'The government itself is involved in a conspiracy to postpone the election in the Himalayan districts until late Chaitra or Baisakh, claiming it's impossible, and during that time, keep the ballot boxes in police and army barracks to calculate who should be defeated and who should be made to win,' Basnet alleged seriously, adding, 'This is confirmed by the Prime Minister's own address to the National Assembly.'

Basnet alleged that this is why the election is being held in two phases. Stating that the government itself is moving towards rigging the election, he expressed no faith that a fair election could be held under this government.

Leader Basnet also stated that the Supreme Court should immediately rule on the writ petition filed demanding the restoration of Parliament. Speaking during a dialogue with 15 candidates from UML in the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday in Kathmandu, Basnet said the court cannot evade this case.

'We had hoped the case would be listed today, but it was postponed again. A trend has emerged where the Chief Justice is disappearing, turning off his phone, and evading responsibility, as if afflicted by an illness he never had. This confirms that we are under a major foreign attack,' Basnet said. 'It feels like our entire judicial system, not just our Supreme, High, and District Courts, is burning.'
