Two Unclaimed Muzzle-Loading Guns Found in Jungle in Myagdi District

Myagdi. Two muzzle-loading guns, found hidden in an unclaimed state, were recovered from a jungle in Jhi village, located in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-5.

Acting on information from the District Police Office, a team deployed from the Pakhapani Police Post recovered the muzzle-loaders from the jungle on Monday. Police suspect that these guns were being used for poaching activities in the jungle during the night.

Police stated that further investigation is underway following the recovery of the guns. Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Thapa of the District Police Office informed that 115 guns had previously been recovered under the illegal muzzle-loader search campaign being conducted by the District Police Office, considering the risk that guns used for hunting wildlife in rural areas of Myagdi could influence the upcoming House of Representatives election. He added that the guns recovered on Monday were also found in an unclaimed state during the same campaign.

The District Police Office had launched an 'Operation' named 'Bravo Sierra' starting from Mangsir 15, mobilizing units across the district to recover and collect illegally held muzzle-loading guns without licenses. Deputy Superintendent of Police Thapa stated that the search intensified after the department issued a circular to recover weapons that locals might have hidden and intended to use during the election period.

In the span of one month, 11 muzzle-loading guns were recovered from Beni Municipality, 16 from Annapurna Rural Municipality, 48 from Raghuganga Rural Municipality, 14 from Mangala Rural Municipality, 20 from Malika Rural Municipality, and six from Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Thapa urged everyone to hand over or report any illegal guns to the police. The legal provision for being caught with an illegal gun includes five years imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 rupees.
