Lumbini Chief Minister Hails Ghorahi's Declaration as Gender Violence Controlled City

Butwal. Lumbini Province Chief Minister, Chet Narayan Acharya, stated that the declaration of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in Dang as a Gender Violence Controlled City is a model achievement for the entire Lumbini Province.

Addressing the 48th City Establishment Day ceremony of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City on Thursday, Chief Minister Acharya mentioned that achieving the indicators set by the federal and provincial governments to be declared a Gender Violence Controlled City is an exemplary act for the entire nation. He recalled that Ghorahi had already been declared a Child-Friendly and Literate City based on human development indicators, noting significant progress in the areas of human, social, and physical development.

At the ceremony, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor, Narulal Chaudhary, informed that the city was declared after fulfilling 32 indicators according to the Gender Violence Controlled City Declaration Procedure 2081. According to him, only 22 incidents of gender-based violence were registered in Ghorahi in the last year, which accounts for 0.01 percent based on the population.

The program began with a welcome speech by Deputy Mayor Huma DC. City Spokesperson Rammani Pandey presented detailed information regarding the declaration. Security agencies, social organizations, and journalists who contributed to the declaration were honored during the event.

District Coordination Committee Chief, Nityananda Sharma, mentioned that in the federal system, the local government is established as the government closest to the people.
