New Western Low-Pressure System Expected to Bring Rain and Snow to Nepal

A few days after a system brought rain and snowfall to Western Nepal, the influence of a Western low-pressure system is once again expected to affect the country.

This low-pressure system, which will enter from the far-western region starting tonight, is forecast to touch the Kathmandu Valley and cause light rainfall. According to Barun Paudel, a senior meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology's Weather Forecasting Division, this system will affect the entire country on Wednesday, though the plains areas will experience less impact.

Meteorologist Paudel told RSS, "There is an expectation of light rain in Kathmandu the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, but the system is weak; there will be no heavy downpour." He added that it could cause snowfall and rain in the Himalayan and high hilly regions.

The department stated that this system will enter from Western Nepal tonight and spread to Gandaki and Lumbini provinces by Tuesday afternoon. It will intensify further by Tuesday night and spread across the country starting Wednesday. Paudel also mentioned that Kathmandu will experience cloud cover, which will gradually clear starting Wednesday night.

Warning Issued

In the weather update released by the department tonight, there is a possibility of moderate snowfall/rain in some parts of the high hilly and Himalayan regions of all provinces on Magh 13 and 14.

It is also mentioned that there is a possibility of moderate rain in some parts of the hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as parts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and light to moderate rain in the remaining areas.

Furthermore, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain in the hilly and plain areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
