Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa States He Contested in Sarlahi-4 Out of Courage

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa stated that he contested from Sarlahi-4 this time taking a risk. During a discussion with youths from Sarlahi in Kathmandu on Saturday, President Thapa mentioned that although he was in a position to win easily in Kathmandu, he contested from Sarlahi-4 this time showing courage.

He further said that he will remain indebted to the voters of Kathmandu-4 for his life and will continue to serve this area. President Thapa noted that while he considered contesting elections outside Kathmandu in the previous election, he lacked the courage then.

Stating that the Madhes brought the Congress to its current state, he opined that merely maintaining a formal relationship with the Madhes is not enough, and only by attempting to lead the Madhes region can he become a national leader.

He mentioned that if elected in that constituency, he would dedicate his five years to the welfare of the Madhes. President Thapa announced that he would establish a separate office in Sarlahi-4 and listen to the public's problems from there.

Furthermore, President Thapa stated that he attempted and succeeded in bringing changes to the party to embrace the sentiments of the youth. He added that although there were some shortcomings in the selection of direct candidates in the current election, there was no financial malpractice involved.
