National Dress and Top Day observed with variety of programmes

Kathmandu, Jan 1: The 13th National Dress and Topi Day, which is marked on January 1 every year, was observed across the country on Thursday by organising various events.

Men wearing national dress and topi and female wearing gunyu choli gathered at main cities and hosted programmes creating awareness for originality.

The campaign that began with activism of some youths at Banepa of Kavrepalanchowk on Poush 17, 2070 BS is now celebrated across the country.

This day is being observed at the leadership of various organisations including National Heritage Preservation Foundation in recent period.

Foundation Chair Rajananda Bajgai Mandabya shared that participation of people has started increasing in programmes organised to mark the National Dress Day in recent years. All indigenous cultures along with costumes should also be preserved, he stressed.

The Foundation has now expanded its chapter in around four dozens districts. According to the Foundation, it was decided to celebrate the Day on January 1 after western culture started dominating the Nepali culture.
