Analysis by Prachanda: The Nation at a Crossroads

Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has stated that due to newly developed circumstances, the party must make the national movement against imperialism and comprador capitalism its main political agenda. He presented this view while delivering a political report at a Central Committee meeting. A party leader informed that Prachanda emphasized the country is at a critical point between revolution and counter-revolution. He stressed the need to develop a new strategy after an objective and subjective review of the situation.

Self-Reflection on Party Weaknesses

Prachanda admitted that while the party's political agenda is correct, there is a weakness in its implementation. He said the party must engage in self-criticism for failing to take leadership on its own issues due to internal contradictions between the party and the people. In his report, he mentioned that the Ganatantra Andolan in September had terrible results because of government suppression and the actions of reactionary forces. He alleged that even though the movement had legitimate demands, there was an attempt to give it a regressive character.

Defending the Constitution and Achievements

Prachanda claimed that the constitution and the fundamental system have survived until now because his party took initiatives until the last moment to protect the constitution, democracy, and the achievements of the revolution.

Announcement of a Special Convention and Elections

Prachanda announced a special national convention proposed for the month of Mangsir. He proposed dissolving the current Central Committee and transforming it into a convention organizing committee. He stated that the convention will ensure maximum participation from youth and new generations, including those from the Ganatantra Andolan. He also insisted that the upcoming general elections must be held on time in Falgun. Election preparations will move forward alongside convention preparations, and priority for candidacy will be given to youth and new faces.

Building Political Unity

Prachanda informed that the process of unity and polarization with parties in the socialist front is moving forward. He said cooperation with other forces will also be pursued on the question of defending the constitution and democracy. He added that a situation may arise where a unity convention needs to be held even before the special convention.

A Call for Internal Transformation

Prachanda concluded that a cultural and institutional transformation is necessary from the party leadership down to all levels. He pointed out the need to change the work style to meet the expectations of the people.
