High Competition for Women in Nepal Police: IGP Thapa
The Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP), Deepak Thapa, has stated that women police officers are performing their duties effectively and with high quality. He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the First Women Police Conference-2082, held at the central police headquarters.
Women's Representation and Future Goals
IGP Thapa reported that the level of competition for women within the Nepal Police is high. He shared that women now make up over 12 percent of the organization. While the current number of female personnel stands at 9,278, he expressed that this is not a reason for satisfaction. The police have a plan to increase this representation to 20 percent in the future.
Focus on Empowerment
The conference was focused on the empowerment of women police officers. IGP Thapa expressed his hope that the event would serve as a carrier of knowledge, inspiration, and positive change for all attendees.
Veteran Officer Honored
At the conference, retired officer Chaitamaya Dongol was honored for her service. She had joined the police force in 2008 as a constable and recently retired after 31 years of service. IGP Thapa noted that her rank at the time of retirement was equivalent to today's Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
