Nepal to Re-Propose Tilaurakot for UNESCO World Heritage List

Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey announced that Nepal will resubmit Tilaurakot's nomination for inclusion in UNESCO's World Heritage List. Speaking at Wednesday's meeting of Parliament's International Relations and Tourism Committee, Minister Pandey confirmed the proposal will be presented at UNESCO's upcoming 48th World Heritage Committee session.

Previous Challenges and Renewed Efforts

Minister Pandey acknowledged that Nepal's previous attempt during the 47th session failed due to technical weaknesses and diplomatic disagreements, particularly India's 33-point objection regarding the proposed site. However, he emphasized that Nepal now possesses substantial evidence to validate Tilaurakot's historical significance, stating, "We have ample proof to establish Tilaurakot's authenticity. There should be no issues this time."

India's Support for Lumbini and Development Fund Progress

The minister also highlighted India's cooperation in preventing Lumbini from being listed on UNESCO's "Danger List." While acknowledging that the Lumbini Development Fund's work has fallen short of expectations, Pandey assured that corrective measures are underway and future plans will be more systematic and effective.
