Narayangadh-Muglin Road Faces Persistent Landslide Risks
Chitwan – The Narayangadh-Muglin road section remains highly vulnerable to frequent landslides and falling rocks due to its construction along steep hillsides. While road expansion, bridge construction, and landslide prevention efforts in recent years have reduced some risks, the threat of falling stones persists.
Most Dangerous Section Identified
Engineer Arjun Ghimire from the Bharatpur Division Road Office stated that the Twin Khola area poses the greatest danger, with large boulders and smaller stones regularly tumbling onto the road. A massive rock hanging about 16 meters above the road remains particularly hazardous. Authorities are currently discussing rock netting solutions, and work has begun using long-boom excavators to remove dangerous boulders.
Recent Fatal Incident
The area near the Long Sandy Bridge has also seen increased rockfall activity, with one driver killed recently by falling stones. According to Ghimire, approximately 700 meters of the road remain high-risk zones. Some retaining walls have been cut to stabilize slopes, but more permanent solutions are still needed.
Ongoing Safety Concerns
Despite mitigation efforts, this critical highway continues to endanger travelers. Officials emphasize the need for urgent geological stabilization measures to prevent further casualties along this vital transportation route.
