Nepali Workers Rescued from Exploitation in India
Five Migrant Laborers Freed from Harsh Conditions in Gujarat
Five Nepali migrant workers facing severe abuse and exploitation at a cold storage facility in Gujarat, India, have been successfully rescued and reunited with their families in Saptari district. The workers, originally from Tirahut Rural Municipality and Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality, had reportedly endured physical assault, mental torture, and withheld wages by their employer in Jodhpur, Gujarat.
Details of the Rescue Operation
The rescue mission was coordinated through the joint efforts of cyber security analyst and journalist Abhinav Kumar, the Nepal National Mushahar Association, and local authorities in Gujarat. According to Tirahut Rural Municipality Chairperson Bijay Yadav, the workers—including 60-year-old Sakaldev Sada, Chandan Khang (28), and Shailendra Sadaw were trapped in exploitative working conditions before being freed.
Community and Official Support Key to Success
Shivadev Sada, Chairperson of the Nepal National Mushahar Association’s Saptari chapter, emphasized that the operation succeeded due to collaboration with Indian local authorities and persistent advocacy. The rescued workers have now returned home safely, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by Nepali migrant laborers abroad and the importance of swift intervention.
This case underscores the need for stronger protections for Nepali workers overseas. #MigrantRights #NepaliWorkers #HumanTraffickingAwareness
