“Parliament Being Turned into a Playground for Middlemen by Two Major Parties”: Prachanda
Kathmandu; Speaking in Parliament, leader of the main opposition, chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ expressed grave concern over what he described as the country’s growing risk of a multidimensional crisis.
Prachanda criticized the current government’s conduct, saying it has betrayed the promises and dreams made to the people during the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and constitution-making process. “Are we moving forward in line with the aspirations we envisioned during the peace accord?” he asked, pointing to rampant corruption, disorder, and injustice in the system. He lamented the lack of access to public services and the failure of the state to protect marginalized communities adequately.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the functioning of Parliament and its committees, Prachanda accused the two major parties of colluding to turn Parliament into a playground for middlemen, calling such behavior shameful and disgraceful for the country and its people.
He sharply criticized the manipulation and interference that, despite bills being passed unanimously in committees, prevent meaningful progress in the full House.
Prachanda urged the government to commit seriously to good governance, social justice, and economic prosperity to strengthen democracy. He warned that unless a serious review and decisive actions are taken soon, the situation could become explosive.
