Bills splitting CAAN registered at House of Representatives

Kathmandu, February 2 — A bill to split the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has been registered in the federal parliament on Saturday.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, registered these two bills.

The registered bills include one for the amendment and integration of the Civil Aviation Authority Act of Nepal and another for the establishment and management of the Nepal Airlines Authority Act.

Currently, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has been playing the role of both an air service provider and a regulatory body. If the bills registered on Saturday are passed, it will pave the way for splitting the CAAN.

Earlier, in 2019, then-Minister Yogesh Bhattarai had also registered a similar bill. However, the government withdrew both bills from the National Assembly in 2021.
