Govt plans to seize corruption assets worth NPR 2 billion

Kathmandu, January 17 — The Ministry of Home Affairs has intensified efforts to recover assets acquired through corruption and return them to the government.

In this regard, a proposal to transfer land and property, which is set to be confiscated by the Supreme Court's verdict, to the government has been sent to the Cabinet through the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to Suresh Panthi, Director General of the Department for Management of Proceeds Crime.

He said, "A proposal has been sent to seize properties purchased in Nepal by five former government officials and an individual involved in criminal activities."

Panthi added, "We have formed five teams led by section officers to collect details of the relevant court decisions."

Panthi also informed that there have been 3,500 court decisions related to asset confiscation.

He mentioned that preparations are underway to seize assets worth NPR 2 billion.

The process of seizing assets of the five former government officials, acquired through corruption in various locations around the Kathmandu Valley, has begun.
