German envoy hands over 17 health post buildings

Nuwakot - The German Federal Economic Support and Development Programme (GIZ) on Tuesday handed over prefabricated buildings built to accommodate 17 health posts that suffered damages during the massive earthquake. 

Acting German Ambassador to Nepal, Jacqueline Groth, handed over the keys of the buildings to Health Ministry's Chief Specialist Dr Binodman Shrestha amidst a function held on Tuesday at Bungtang of Meghang rural municipality – 2. 

Following the inauguration of the Bungtang Health Post and after receiving the keys to the rest of the health posts, Dr Shrestha termed the support from GIZ as significant in contributing towards enhancing the quality of the health services. 

Of the total of 75 health posts in Nuwakot, 30 were completely destroyed while 20 suffered partial damages during the earthquake. 

On the occasion, Groth insisted on the proper use of the 17 health posts built at a cost of Rs 84.9 million extended by the German government. 

She also noted the GIZ's ongoing training programme on construction involving 2000 youths from Nuwakot and Dhading districts. The programme aims at building health and educational institutes and help people earn a living. 

The health posts built by the GIZ would provide maternity health services, family planning, 38 different types of cost – free medicines provided by the Nepal Government as well as vaccination programmes.
