CAN bids farewell to U-19 Women’s team for T20 World Cup (photos)
Kathmandu, January 10 — The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has bid farewell to the Nepali team that will compete in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The farewell event was held on Friday, where Minister of Sports Tejulal Chaudhary, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka, and other officials attended to wish the team success.
The Nepali squad for the tournament includes captain Pooja Mahto, vice-captain Sony Pakhrin, Sana Pravin, Jyotsnika Marasini, Kusum Godar, and Alisa Kumari Yadav.
Other members of the team include Sabitri Dhami, Krishma Gurung, Tirsana Bik, Kiran Kumari Kunwar, Riya Sharma, Simana KC, Rachana Kumari Chaudhary, Sneha Mahara, and Anu Kadayat.
Nepal had prepared for the competition in Bharatpur.
The second edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Malaysia, from January 18 to February 2.
A total of 16 teams will participate, divided into four groups. Nepal is placed in Group D, alongside Australia, Bangladesh, and Scotland.
Group A includes the host Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Group B has England, Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States, while Group C features New Zealand, Nigeria, Samoa, and South Africa.
Nepal will play its first match against Bangladesh on January 18, its second match against Scotland on January 20, and its third match against Australia on January 22.
After the group stage, the top three teams from each group will advance to the "Super Six" stage, which will be divided into two groups.
Group 1 will consist of teams from Group A and Group D, while Group 2 will have teams from Group B and Group C.
Two teams from each Super Six group will progress to the semifinals.
