Prachanda calls for pressure to resolve TRC issue

Kathmandu, January 8 — Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), emphasized the need for pressure from the Parliament, government, and the streets to resolve the issue of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

He made these remarks during a program titled "Peace Process and the Issue of Disappeared Citizens" organized by the Nepal Bar Association on Wednesday.

Prachanda stated that only by increasing pressure can the TRC issue be resolved.

He said, "If the victims do not create pressure through unity and street protests, the TRC may remain unresolved for another 18 years. Political pressure is necessary. With pressure, we can reach a solution. I am thinking of ways to increase pressure. I am preparing to push forward with pressure from the Parliament, the government, and the streets."

Prachanda also mentioned that he plans to meet with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba soon to press for progress on the TRC.

The program was organized by the family of Rajendra Dhakal, who was disappeared during the armed conflict.
