Government raises fares amid ongoing public transport woes (photos)

Kathmandu, January 7 — The government has increased public transportation fares starting Monday.

The Department of Transport Management announced a 3.3% fare hike for passenger vehicles, effective from yesterday.

The fare adjustment was determined not through discussions between the government, transport entrepreneurs, and workers, but based on the fare adjustment procedure, with fares set in three primary categories.

However, it appears that the government has not given enough attention to improving public transportation despite the fare adjustment.

Passengers still face overcrowding, long waiting times, and the need to stand or hang during their travels.
