SC to hear corruption case over 280 ropani of government land
Kathmandu, January 6 — The Supreme Court is holding a hearing on a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) regarding 280 ropani (approximately 14 hectares) of government land that was allegedly registered in an individual’s name.
The case is being heard by a full bench of Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel.
The CIAA filed the corruption case in June 2013 against all employees, including the then Chief of Chainpur Land Revenue Office in Sankhuwasabha, for registering forest land by creating fake documents.
After the Special Court found them guilty, the accused appealed the decision in the Supreme Court.
The appeal was filed in December 2019, and today the Supreme Court will hear the case.
If the decision of the Special Court is upheld, the land will be considered government property. The 280 ropani of land in Nun Dhaki, Sankhuwasabha, was registered in an individual’s name.
The case was filed against the then Land Revenue Officer Sitaram Paudel, land buyers Kamal Bahadur Dhungel and Gunaraj Pokharel, and all involved employees.
