President Paudel confers honorary COAS title on Indian Army Chief Dwivedi

Kathmandu, November 21 — President Ram Chandra Paudel has conferred the insignia and sword of the honorary Chief of the Army Staff on the Chief of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi.

General Dwivedi, who is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel, received the honorary rank in a special ceremony held on Thursday at the Presidential Palace, Shital Niwas. President Paudel, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army, officiated the ceremony.

The event was attended by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Defense Minister Manbir Rai, and other distinguished guests.

General Dwivedi arrived in Nepal on Wednesday. This tradition of conferring honorary ranks is part of the longstanding military relations between Nepal and India, wherein both countries bestow honorary chief of the army staff titles upon each other’s army chiefs.
