27 Killed in Suicide Car Bomb Attack on Security Post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 27 people have died in a suicide car bomb attack targeting a security post in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to details released by the Pakistani army on Friday, the deceased include individuals from both security forces and the attackers. The attack, which took place on Thursday night in Tank district bordering Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of 12 soldiers, two police officers, and one forest department employee. The army stated that 12 militants involved in the attack were also killed. The Pakistani army said that after the attackers attempted to forcibly enter the security post, they detonated a vehicle filled with explosives against the security post's wall. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned organization that has been waging an armed struggle against the Pakistani government since 2007, claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that four suicide attackers were involved. Following the incident, security forces have launched extensive security and search operations in the surrounding areas to find other individuals involved in the attack. This attack is the latest in a series of continuous violent incidents targeting security forces, government officials, and civilians in Pakistan's northwestern region in recent months. Security analysts say that the activities of armed groups active in Pakistan have intensified since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021. Attacks on security forces have increased significantly, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Just last week, significant casualties were reported in suicide and other attacks targeting the police in the neighboring Bannu district. According to the Center for Research and Security Studies, the number of deaths due to violent incidents in Pakistan reached 2,331 last year, up from 1,620 in 2024. Similarly, the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies reported a 34 percent increase in the number of attacks nationwide during the same period. Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring armed groups active against Pakistan on its soil. However, the Afghan Taliban government denies this accusation, stating that security problems within Pakistan are its internal matter. Tensions between the two countries have escalated to military levels in recent months. Pakistan has repeatedly conducted airstrikes targeting armed groups within Afghanistan, and the Afghan side has also retaliated. According to the United Nations, hundreds of Afghan civilians have died in these airstrikes this year, further straining relations between the two neighboring countries.
