Biodiversity contributes to sustainability of agriculture, Minister Adhikari says

Kathmandu, October 18 — Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has attended the multi-stakeholder meeting and the inaugural session of the World Food Forum 2024 held in Rome, Italy. Minister Adhikari is leading the Nepali delegation of Ministry officials to the Forum.

Addressing the Forum's session on investment, Minister Adhikari urged the investors to make investments in Nepal's agriculture sector adding that Nepal has planned to bring in more investments in the agriculture sector and has declared the Agriculture Investment Decade beginning this year.    

Minister Adhikari also stated that the Nepal government has accorded priority to sustainable agriculture, food security, green production and transforming agri-food systems.    

On the occasion, he said that Nepal's rich biodiversity has made crucial contributions to the sustainability of the agriculture sector adding that Nepal's food systems could be an inspiring lesson for the world.    

Minister Adhikari's press coordinator Praveen Pokharel said that Chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Kusum Thapa, National Planning Commission's Vice-Chairperson Dr Shivaraj Adhikari, Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha also attended the meeting.    

Organized by the United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Forum kicked off on October 14 and will conclude today.
