Government to take legal action against businesses for disrespecting officials during inspections
Kathmandu, October 8 — The administration has decided to take legal action against businesses that behaved disrespectfully towards government officials during market inspections. On Sunday, during a market monitoring conducted by the Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection in Kalimati and Kuleshwar, some business owners were uncooperative.
During the inspection, which involved Industry, Commerce, and Supply Minister Damodar Bhandari, several business owners exhibited disrespectful behavior towards the officials after the minister had left.
On Monday, regulatory bodies, including the chairperson of the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Development Committee, the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, the police chief, and the Commerce Department, decided to take action in accordance with the law against the business owners.
Chief District Officer Jayanarayan Acharya stated that business owners have a history of uncooperative and disrespectful behavior. He warned that if businesses engage in activities that disrupt inspections, their registrations will be revoked.
The decisions made by regulatory bodies on Monday included mandatory price listings, required cooperation during inspections, legal action against businesses that refuse to cooperate, mandatory retention of transaction bills by all businesses, and a special focus on cleanliness within the development committee premises.
During the surprise inspection on Sunday, Minister Bhandari found that fish and vegetable shops were not maintaining cleanliness and that there were instances of unreasonable price hikes. He instructed subordinate bodies to take immediate action against businesses engaging in black marketing and unfair price increases, emphasizing that he would leave no stone unturned to ensure market transparency.
