Third Nepal-China media conference concludes

Kathmandu, October 1 — The third Nepal-China media conference, organized by South Asia Network Television and the Nepal-China Media Forum, has successfully concluded in Kathmandu. This event marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung expressed the government’s positive stance towards China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He highlighted Nepal's active participation in various projects from neighboring countries and the international community that align with national interests. Gurung indicated that opportunities for further Chinese assistance to Nepal are expected to increase in the future and emphasized the crucial role that media from both countries can play in strengthening bilateral relations.

Chinese Ambassador Chen Song addressed the conference, stating that the collaborative efforts following the BRI have yielded significant results. He noted that the Trans-Himalayan Three-Dimensional Interconnection Network has been successfully established.

Ambassador Song also shared that over 300 reform measures introduced during the recent 20th General Assembly of the Communist Party of China will benefit many neighboring countries, including Nepal. He pointed out that the expansion of China’s goods, services, capital, and labor markets, along with continued openness to least developed countries, exemplifies bilateral cooperation.

He further elaborated on ongoing initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative, including advancements in green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence, energy, taxation, finance, and disaster management. The ambassador expressed confidence that these reforms will accelerate the construction of a multi-dimensional network between Nepal and China, enhancing cooperation in agriculture, industry, trade, digital technology, renewable energy, and tourism—ultimately benefiting the people of both nations.

Ambassador Chen acknowledged the media's vital role in responsibly disseminating accurate and comprehensive information, thereby strengthening the foundation of cooperation between Nepal and China.

Kishor Shrestha, chairman of the Nepal-China Media Forum, noted that the conference commemorated the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and the 69th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, further deepening bilateral ties. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that media content remains authentic, straightforward, and truthful.

Shrestha also recognized the contributions of senior journalist Hou Zhihong from China's Kansu province in organizing the event, praising the South Asia Network Television, which is owned by Hou.

The conference was attended by representatives from over 30 Chinese institutions, enterprises, and media organizations, including Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and Tibet Media Group, as well as more than 50 mainstream Nepali media outlets.
