Nepal Airlines cabin crew protest against alleged discrimination
Kathmandu, September 30 — Cabin crew members of Nepal Airlines Corporation have staged a protest against management, citing injustice and discrimination. The long-serving crew members expressed their dissent against management's actions in violation of an interim order issued by the Supreme Court, claiming that they faced retaliation while fighting for justice.
Approximately 50 protesters gathered on Monday morning, donning black armbands as they demonstrated during the entry of Executive Chairman Ubaraj Adhikari. They held placards with slogans such as "Implement the Supreme Court's interim order," "Stop discrimination," and "No to oppression."
Several months ago, the Supreme Court issued an interim order instructing the corporation not to discriminate against employees in terms of service, benefits, and tenure. The crew members claimed that management is attempting to dismiss cabin crew members in defiance of the Supreme Court's order and that they are facing discrimination in service benefits.
Despite the matter being under consideration in the Supreme Court, they allege that Executive Chairman Adhikari has begun actions in a biased manner. A total of 172 cabin crew members had approached the Supreme Court months ago, claiming injustice. They also submitted a memorandum to Tourism Minister Badri Pandey, urging necessary actions to stop discrimination.
