Cooperative victims call off protests

Kathmandu, September 9 — The protest by cooperative victims has been called off following an agreement to form a task force to address their concerns and facilitate the refund of their savings.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation reached the agreement with the National Campaign for the Protection of Cooperative Savers, after 108 days of ongoing protests, including a relay fast and sit-in at Ratna Park.

As part of the agreement, a 7-member task force has been established, led by the deputy-registrar of the Department of Co-operatives. The group will include representatives from the Ministry, the National Cooperative Federation, National Campaign for the Protection of Cooperative Savers, and the Department of Co-operatives.

Following the agreement, Arjun Prasad Pokhrel, Secretary of the Ministry, and Pitambar Ghimire, Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives, provided juice to the cooperative victims to break their hunger strike.
