Mid Hill Highway blocked by landslides

Baglung, September 6 — The Mid Hill Highway, a national pride project, has been blocked due to continuous heavy rain, which has triggered landslides in several areas.

The affected regions include Khadukhola, Jirikhola, and Kalapairakhola within Nisikhola Rural Municipality, as well as Thulakhet in Badigad Rural Municipality, and other parts of the highway.

Tikanidhi Paudel, Ward Chairman of Nisikhola-4, informed that hundreds of passengers are stranded because the Burtibang-East Rukum section and the Baglung-Burtibang section are completely blocked.

Travelers heading to Nisikhola, East Rukum, Jajarkot, Rolpa, and other destinations like Pokhara and Kathmandu are affected.

Similarly, those returning to their villages to celebrate Teej from cities such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Butwal are facing difficulties due to the road closures.

Paudel noted that the night bus service from Kathmandu to East Rukum and Jajarkot has halted at Burtibang. He mentioned that road clearance will take time as the rain continues.

Paudel added, “The heavy rain has led to landslides in many areas, bringing traffic to a complete standstill. We will work to clear the roads once the rain stops, but many public roads are blocked due to flooding in small valleys.”
