MP Suwal references Sikkim’s annexation in parliamentary committee meeting
Kathmandu, September 3 — Prem Suwal, a Member of Parliament from the Nepal Majdoor Kisaan Party (NMKP), has made strong remarks about Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba’s recent visit to India.
Suwal commented that while there has been talk of Foreign Minister Rana being received in India with the same respect as a Prime Minister, the historical incident involving Lhendup Dorjee should not be overlooked.
During a discussion with the Foreign Minister at the International Relations and Tourism Committee meeting in Parliament on Tuesday, MP Suwal stated, "It has been claimed that the Foreign Minister was treated like a Prime Minister. However, we must remember that India once rolled out the red carpet for Lhendup Dorjee and annexed Sikkim."
It may be noted that Kazi Lhendup Dorjee was an Indian politician who was the first chief minister of Sikkim from 1975 to 1979 after its union with India. He was the first Prime Minister of Sikkim from 1974 to 1975. He is considered a traitor by some due to his alleged involvement in facilitating India’s annexation of Sikkim in 1975.
