CPN (UML) Chief Whip Mahar draws government's attention to ensure participation of Nepali women's national football team in 20th Asian Games

Kathmandu. CPN (UML) Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar has drawn the government's attention to ensure the participation of the Nepali women's national football team in the 20th Asian Games to be held in Japan in 2026.  

Speaking in the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Chief Whip Mahar expressed concern over the news that women players are being deprived of that prestigious competition due to lack of budget. He said that it would be an injustice to the players and the sports sector to stop participation by making budget an excuse when passports have already been collected for the players' visa process.

 During his address, Mahar mentioned that the Prime Minister's social media (Facebook) cover photo features a group photo of the women's football team and urged that the respect be translated into practice. He emphasized that the trust and respect shown by the Prime Minister should be reflected through budget allocation.

Similarly, Chief Whip Mahar also seriously drew the government's attention to the issue of additional fees levied on the television broadcast of the World Cup football tournament.

He termed the situation where Nepali viewers have to pay 999 rupees to watch the matches related to the 23rd World Cup Football to be held in America, Mexico, and Canada as 'loot'. He demanded that an environment be created where general Nepali football lovers can watch the matches for free through national television.
