Balen calls out PM Oli: 'Arrest child abuser now!'

Kathmandu, September 1 — Balen Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has called on Prime Minister KP Oli via social media to arrest CPN-UML provincial assembly member Rekha Sharma.

Mayor Shah criticized the authorities for their failure to arrest Sharma, who is accused of keeping a girl captive and forcing her to work as a domestic servant for the past eight years.

Along with a photo of Sharma, Balen Shah wrote, "This is CPN-UML provincial assembly member Rekha Sharma. She has been holding a girl captive for eight years, subjecting her to violence under the pretense of domestic work, and beating her daily."

He added, "The Kathmandu Metropolitan City authorities have failed to act for the past two months. The court has decided to prosecute the case. Honorable Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, good governance should involve adhering to court decisions and arresting those accused of child abuse. It appears that for you, good governance means making numerous announcements on Facebook after the girl's death and expressing false sympathy. When will action be taken? Or will it ever be?"
