Committee formed to probe Gatthaghar incident
Kathmandu, August 16 - A committee has been formed to investigate the recent incident at Gatthaghar in Bhaktapur. The police formed the inquiry committee on Friday following directives from Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
Police Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki announced that the committee, led by Valley Police Office SP Pradeep KC, began its work on Friday morning. The police have pledged to uncover the truth behind the incident and take appropriate action against those responsible.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basant Kunwar was instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the vehicle accident in Gatthaghar, which resulted in one fatality.
The accident occurred Thursday afternoon when a truck collided with a scooter, killing the rider on the spot. The deceased, Uttam Koirala from Okhaldhunga, was struck by truck No. 6 Kha 2173 while riding scooter No. Baa 39 Pa 8944.
Though the truck driver initially fled the scene, he was apprehended by police in New Baneshwar on Thursday evening and subsequently handed over to the Police Circle Thimi.
Public CCTV footage reveals the truck dragging the scooter. The incident caused significant tension in the area throughout Thursday.
