Home Minister orders probe into Gatthaghar accident

Kathmandu, August 16: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar to conduct a thorough investigation into the traffic accident that occurred at Gatthaghar in Bhaktapur.

Minister Lekhak has directed Kunwar to determine the cause of the accident and assess any potential negligence.

Expressing his sorrow over the incident, Lekhak asked, "What caused the accident at Gatthaghar? Was it due to someone's fault? Was there any failure on the part of our police force? We need a serious investigation."

The accident, which happened on Thursday afternoon near Gatthaghar junction, resulted in the death of a scooter driver who was hit by a truck.

The victim, Uttam Koirala from Okhaldhunga, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck, with registration number 6 Kha 2173, collided with the scooter bearing number Baa 39 Pa 8944.

Although the truck driver initially fled the scene, he was apprehended later that evening by police from New Baneshwor and was subsequently handed over to Police Circle, Thimi for further action.
